Kotoko uses to write cryptic and complex lyrics in her songs. This song of her is one of my favorite because the images it recalls and uses are extremely evocative. Each single word is beautifully chiseled in the song, and Kotoko sings it with emotion and giving a tense feeling of bewilderment and enlightenment, of claustrophobia and agoraphobia, of hope and despair exactly at the right spots.

Probably, this song of her is underestimated, and this is exactly because of its complexity and duality. To me, is a small cameo of perfection, and one more proof of her genius, if there was need for more of it.

Katsuya Takase's music sustain perfectly the lyrics, or possibly interacts with them, with regions of pitch dark and sprouts of blind hopes. The overall feeling is that of a metropolitan, dark sound which doesn't completely gives in to gloom.

作詩:KOTOKO
Lyrics: Kotoko

Music: Katsuya TAKASE

fukaku kuraku ochiteku shuro no umi
Falling in a dark and deep sea of palms

Samete doko wo mesazu no? uzu no mannaka de
Mi sveglio; dove mirare? In mezzo al vortice...
I wake up inside this vortex; and where should I aim at?

iradatsu you na oto mou yamete
Basta con questi rumori irritanti!
Shut up this annoying noises!

sakasama no sekai de ima, nani wo miru no?
In this upside-down world, now, what should I look at?

---

Shinjireba nami no oku ni sagashiteta basho ga arawareru?
If I believe, will the place I am searching for appear between the waves?

mogaku yubi kara koborete kuu wo samayou
Il vuoto si sperde fra dita ansiose
The void prowls among restless fingers

shinjitsu wa tatta hitotsu to toku kara kioku ga sakenderu
From afar, my memories are screaming: "Truth is just one"!

mogaki tsukareta teashi ga oboeteiru
And tired of my impatience, my arms and legs can tell

nemuru mori no nioi
il profumo di foresta addormentata.
the scent of the sleeping forest.

---

Oide nani mo kowaku wa nai kara to
I hear "Come on, there's nothing to be afraid of!"

achira kochira doko kara sasoimadowasu no?
there, and here, where are they luring me from?

Shiranai hou ga mada shiawase
Non sapere è ancora felicità
Not to know is still happiness

The world I am too accustomed to is breaking my body

---

Nomareta nami no oku de mitsuketa gensou no hana no mure
I found the ghost of a flowerbed between the waves that I swallowed

soko ni majitte saku no mo ii to mayotta
And I wondered about how beautiful it would have been to mix with it and blossom there

sotto tada matteiru no wa kawaranu kokyou no aoi sora
What's just silently waiting for me is nothing but the changeless blue sky of my birthplace

mada maniau to nigotta mizu wo ketta
Dicendo "Sono ancora in tempo" ho calciato l'acqua torbida
Saying "I can still reach there" I kicked the turbid water

itsuka kaeru basho e
towards the place in which, one day, I'll return to.

---

If you beleive in that, the cradle of the eternity will appear among the waves.

oyogitsukarete motometa ai no guuzou (*)
Tired of swimming, the love fetish I was searching for...

shinjitsu wa tatta hitotsu to tooku kara kioku ga sakenderu
From afar, my memories are screaming: "Reality is just one". (**)

ushinau no nara omoi wo sotto yasumete
... se dovessi perderlo, lascerò riposare i miei pensieri in silenzio
... should I ever lose it, I'll let my thoughts to rest in silence

futatabi tobitatsu hi made...
'till the day in which I will fly again...

(*) The verse continues past the next verse. See below.
(**) "Shinjitsu" means both truth and reality. I used the most fitting word in the two different context, but actually it means both in both contexts.

Notice that the intersection of the verses in the last strophe, where a thought started on the second verse skips the "Reality is just one" yelled by the conscience of the singer; exactly like if this thoughts formed in parallel in her mind.
